Spiritwood is an agricultural center located in the north central Parkland District. Grain and livestock are the chief industries. The area was settled in 1912, and remained a very small community until the arrival of the train in 1929. The railroad brought with it new business and new settlers, and Spiritwood became a bustling hamlet, which incorporated into a village in 1935, and eventually became a town in 1965.
When it comes to recreation, Spiritwood has a lot to offer. With six golf courses, six regional parks and 35 lakes no more than an hour’s drive, active residents are never at a loss for an activity - from camping, boating, fishing (perch, walleye, pike and trout), golfing, slow pitch, fastball, hunting and hiking to curling, bowling, snowmobiling and cross country skiing. Annual events include a farmers market and children’s program in summer, and numerous golf tournaments during the summer months. Also open in the summer months is the Spiritwood Museum, which preserves and displays the story of Spiritwood’s history.
